Here at Mannix Marketing, Inc. we receive applications from potential employees from all walks of life, and eventually one candidate is hand chosen based on a number of factors, including education, background, skill, personality, and in many cases, pure passion. Such was the case with recent graphic design hire Melissa Haas.
On paper, Haas was already an attractive candidate. She had a degree in Media Design from Indiana Wesleyan University. While there, she interned with the University’s Marketing and Communication department as a Web Designer and Developer. She ticked off all the boxes for her skills in computer illustration, print design, motion graphics, 3D design, and web design. But in addition to her extensive skillset, it was her passion for web design and marketing that ultimately won her the position at Mannix Marketing.
“Melissa is an extremely talented designer, and she also has a spark,” said CEO Sara Mannix. “Passion is something that is difficult to stipulate on a job description, but when Melissa interviewed with us, we knew within minutes she was a keeper. She is a perfect fit here at Mannix Marketing.”
When Haas graduated college, she moved to Glens Falls as a freelance Web and Graphic designer but missed being part of a team environment. Mannix Marketing popped onto her radar after Haas was impressed by their website design work for Double H Ranch.
“I’m always out to design websites that make people’s lives and businesses better, which is exactly what Mannix Marketing did for Double H Ranch,” said Haas. “I knew I wanted to work for a company like that.”
Passionate about website design and feeling a connection to this Glens Falls internet marketing company, Haas interviewed with Mannix Marketing in October 2013 and got the position.
When asked what spurs her passion, Haas responded with an anecdote:
“In the Spring of 2012, I took a mission trip to La Gonave, Haiti. while I was there, a little girl tapped me on the shoulder and started singing Justin Bieber’s infamous song “Baby.” Although I never had Bieber Fever, I thought it was incredible that Justin Bieber’s song reached to the ends of the earth — even to this little girl that was so unbelievably poor, there is no chance she’d ever touched a computer. Websites, videos, photos, even a tweet has every potential to reach the world within seconds. I am just crazy enough to believe that I can make the world a better place by planting a seed online and watch it grow into something beautiful.”
